Perhaps many years in the making and a lifelong dream of David Gartry, his very own eye clinic finally opened it’s doors earlier this year.

To celebrate the start of another journey in David’s career and also the addition of a top class eye clinic to the Harley Street enclave of London we held a gathering of friends and colleagues at the new clinic. Being our official opening party we all enjoyed some food and champagne and gave guests a tour of the clinic.

David-Gartry

With Professor John Marshall PhD, DSc, MBE. John was instrumental in the scientific development of laser eye surgery and was David’s supervisor for his doctoral thesis entitled “The development of excimer laser corneal surgery in the U.K.”. John has made a huge contribution to the understanding of the clinical applications of lasers in eye surgery.

Although a senior Moorfields consultant David has always worked in and around the Wimpole Street / Harley Street area of London, an area synonymous with rich medical history and ophthalmology. Several years ago he began examining the possibility of establishing his very own eye clinic in the area and in 2014 it looked like something could take shape.

An opportunity arose to acquire number 46 Wimpole Street and The Wimpole Street Eye Clinic was formed. At around 2000 square foot the clinic houses the very latest in scanning and diagnostic equipment and now forms an integral part of the consultation and aftercare process for laser eye surgery, cataract surgery and refractive lens exchange with David Gartry.

The clinic team is shared between this new location, minutes from Oxford Circus tube and the Moorfields Eye Hospital site on City Road. There are numerous scanning rooms occupied by our team of professional and experienced optometrists, David Gartry’s main consultation room, an office for the administrative staff, a waiting area with lots of natural daylight and refreshments as well as outside space in the form of a bright and attractive courtyard. The Wimpole Street Eye Clinic is a pleasant place to be and patients have expressed their enthusiasm for the space. It allows those having a laser eye surgery consultation for example or check up to visit a central London location which is often very convenient. It also allows the team to meet regularly and discuss results, plan for the future and keep up with developments. Future ideas for the clinic include expanding into the upper floors.
